Tattoo Before & After Care
Please take the time to read the all of the information below.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
Before Your Appointment
In the days leading up to your appointment please…
Keep the area you are being tattooed moisturized.
Avoid any amount of sun burn.
Avoid alcohol and blood thinners.
Please do NOT shave the area.
Get plenty of sleep the night prior.
On the day of your appointment please…
Please eat a well portioned meal before coming in. It helps balance blood sugar which is important to keep level during a tattoo. Bring snacks and drinks as we will be sitting for 4-9 hours.
Please be aware of personal hygiene before coming in. Wear appropriate clothing, such as shorts for leg tattoos, sleeveless shirts for arms. For back and front body tattoos, a button-down flannel and a front or back strap bra is usually best. If you are unsure about what to wear for the appointment, please feel free to ask. I want all my clients to be as comfortable as possible.
Feel free to bring a pillow or a comfort item including anything to entertain yourself such as headphones, books, etc. Avoid anything that will involve movement.
I don’t normally allow anyone to come with to your appointment(s.) If it is your first tattoo or more comforting for you, please limit it to one friend or family member.
After Your Appointment
Remember, your tattoo is an investment and taking care of it is important!
When I wrap the tattoo, leave the wrap on for 2-3 hours after your appointment.
After removing the wrap, please wash with an anti-bacterial soap, I recommend Dial Gold, and make sure to pat dry with a clean paper towel. Continue washing with anti-bacterial soap two times a day for 10-14 days; once in the morning and once at night. Apply thin coats of non-petroleum ointment for at least 2 weeks after your appointment.
I recommend Redemption which you can order online. Letting your tattoo dry out can result in scabbing which can result in poor healing in parts of the tattoo.
Do not pick, peel, scrub or scratch your tattoo during the healing process.
Do not submerge your tattoo in water. Examples: Baths, pools, oceans, lakes, etc.
Protect the tattoo from the sun, please do not go tanning.
